DP World’s interest in opportunities and investments in Philippine logistics will be another milestone in the country’s journey to becoming a leading logistics hub in Asia. This initiative, announced by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), came in a mutual commitment with the UAE-based company to fostering economic growth in the field of logistics.

Who is DP World?

DP World is a leading global provider of worldwide marine terminal operations and development services. Headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the company manages a network of 49 marine terminals across 31 countries.

Core operations include general cargo handling, bulk cargo loading and unloading, roll-on roll-off vessel services, passenger terminals, and related logistics solutions. These are supported by various subsidiaries offering specialized maritime services, port security, infrastructure consulting, and more.

DP World’s Vision of Boosting Philippine Logistics

DP World, a leading global logistics provider, intends to develop a major logistics hub and industrial park in the Philippines. DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual confirmed this plan as he met with DP World Group Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Omar Al Muhairi and Group Senior Vice President for Corporate Finance and Business Development Anirudh Talwar in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) last Feb. 25.

This plan was initially discussed in a meeting between DP World and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last January, eyeing an industrial park in Clarkfield in Pampanga.

A Chance for Sustainable Development Partnership

The collaboration between the Philippine government and DP World aims to create a sustainable development framework that promotes foreign investment and innovation. The DTI’s engagement with DP World signifies the dedication to improving Philippine logistics infrastructure align to the ‘Build Better More’ infrastructure program that the current administration is doing, including improvements to seaports, airports, and railways.

Legislative Framework and Investment Incentives

The Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) Law and the amended Public Services Act offer flexible incentives and allow full foreign ownership in critical sectors. These legislative measures, coupled with the DTI’s support in facilitating partnerships, underscore the Philippines’ commitment to becoming a competitive destination for global logistics investments.

Expanding the Philippine Logistics and Industrial Landscape

DP World’s decision to invest in the Philippines goes beyond just financial motives. It also represents a strategic effort to expand the country’s logistics and industrial innovation. This partnership aims to take advantage of the Philippines’ favorable geographic location and transform it into a vital hub in the Asia-Pacific logistics system. This will hopefully uplift the country’s industrial and economic progress.

Enhancing Infrastructure for Future Growth

The “Build Better More” initiative concentrates on improving seaports, airports, and railways. The goal is to upgrade accessibility to the Philippines’ main transportation gateways. This enhanced connectivity aspires to strengthen the country’s draw as a prime destination for investment.

Industry experts predict DP World’s proposed investments will expand and upgrade national infrastructure considerably. This is also expected to improve the Philippines’ capacity in areas like shipping, air freight, and warehousing. Overall, the initiatives aim to position the country as an attractive destination for foreign capital and business expansion across industrial sectors. With upgraded logistics facilities and DP World’s international expertise, the Philippines can realize its potential to become a strategic logistics hub connecting key Asian markets.
